Control & Diagnostic Systems (CDS) is a dynamic engineering organization focused on the development and certification of military, commercial and industrial gas turbine engine control and diagnostic systems. CDS is responsible for all aspects of Pratt & Whitney engine control and diagnostic system development including: requirements analysis & definition, system & software architecture, algorithm design, and product software design, verification & validation. We integrate the control and diagnostic system design across other engine system modules and with the air vehicles and provide support throughout the complete engine product life cycle. Job responsibilities include a wide range of exciting and challenging activities which involve application of fundamental engineering principles in the analysis of engine system operating requirements and the development of engine control and diagnostic systems. Candidates should have successfully demonstrated analytica and mathematical modelingl skills to solve complex control, diagnostic and/or software system problems and the ability to work at the implementation level. This position in the Control & Diagnostic Systems (CDS) organization may be part of the Engineering Development Program at Pratt & Whitney. The Engineering Development Program, or EDP, is a multiyear program for new College hires that has been implemented to: 1) accelerate technical capability through substantive work rotations focused in specific disciplines; and 2) connect EDP participants with a network of technical resources & engineering experts. The EDP offers new employees the opportunity to rotate through assignments in the organization that provide focused classroom training & technical work experiences. Every new Control & Diagnostic Systems (CDS) organization employee hired as a college new hire may be slated to participate in the Engineering Development Program.

Experience/Qualifications
This product development activity requires strong integration and analysis skills in a variety of control system, diagnostic system and/or software disciplines, such as:

  • Systems Engineering & Integration
  • Classical Control Design
  • Multivariable & Optimal Control Design
  • Software Engineering
  • Embedded Systems
  • Verification & Validation
  • Dynamic System Modeling (actuators, sensors, propulsion system)
  • Dynamic Stability Analysis
  • Statistical Data Analysis / Signal Processing
  • Prognostics
  • Engine Health Management
  • System Simulation As a member of a dynamic engineering organization, these positions offer a candidate an excellent opportunity to apply multidisciplinary engineering skills in the development of complex engine control systems and software. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary/multiproject team environment focused on developing and certifying mission critical embedded systems.

    Education Certification
    BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Computer Engineering, with formal coursework in such areas as control theory, systems modeling, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics. Candidates with relevant experience, and candidates with co-op or intern experience are preferred. Minimum GPA of 3.0 required.
