The Pratt & Whitney, East Hartford Site Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) organization is seeking a motivated individual looking for an opportunity to support and execute diverse EHS requirements, at a multi-tenant large site. In this role as Sr Associate, EH&S Generalist, you  will interact extensively with labor union representatives, management, supervisors, hourly and salary employees on various projects and teams.

Responsibilities include:

-Provide technical EHS support to ensure compliance with federal, state, local regulations and P&W/UTC requirements.

-Provide technical direction to line management including council subcommittee teams for effective execution of goals and objectives.  
-Assist management in the recognition and control of hazards and risks.

-Coordinate and conduct specialized Health and/or Safety audits and inspections of premises and operations in conjunction with others to monitor performance and assist the relevant line management to produce action plans to implement the necessary improvements.

-Conduct trend analysis for inspection/audits, injuries, spills, near hits and develop corrective/preventive actions to improve performance.

-Identify opportunities to successfully integrate EH&S programs/activities into overall business operations with a focus on management system integration.

-Assist line management with effective investigations and mistake proofing initiatives.

-Assist line management with the identification and immediate correction of unsafe conditions or practices to prevent adverse impacts to the organization and company.

-Coordinate internal and external reporting.

-Assist with effective implementation of the union complaint procedure.

-Ensure that all training is conducted, assist as necessary.

-Provide response/guidance as a spill responder on a rotating schedule.

There is up to 10% travel associated with this role.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in EHS related area of study.
  • Minimum 2 years†experience with EH&S compliance and EHS Management Systems. 
  • Minimum 2 years†experience in OSHA health and safety regulations as well as regulatory programs such as elevated work, lock out tag out (LOTO), machine guarding, industrial hygiene monitoring, confined space, ergonomics, risk assessment, etc.
  • US Citizenship is required due to Government contracts.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masterâ€s degree in Health and Safety Engineering, Management.
  • Continuous Improvement experience e.g. ACE, Six Sigma, LEAN etc.
  • Strong technical, interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Capable of working with a wide range of people from the site leader to shop floor and of providing team leadership when required to meet highly aggressive goals.
  • EHS Certifications, such as CSP, CIH.P.E. or CHMM
