Pratt & Whitney is seeking a highly experienced environment, health and safety (EH&S) Site Manager, responsible for all EH&S issues associated with the day-to-day operations at our Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC) R&D facility, reporting directly to the site General Manager. CMCs are an enabling material that increases the temperature capability of jet engine components. Through successful development and application of these materials, P&W will deliver engines that are more fuel efficient, lighter weight and more durable for commercial and military applications.

This position is also expected to provide timely information and guidance for the General Manager and the site EH&S council and Sub-Committees, including EH&S performance trends and root cause corrective actions for injuries and near misses; and support in the development and implementation of strategic action plans to achieve the company goal of having a hazard-free workplace, injury-free employees and an unmatched commitment to compliance and sustainability.

As a member of the leadership team, this position will drive action plans to meet or exceed aggressive EH&S goals, act as the primary EH&S technical resource for the site and provide training and support for the site's hazard risk assessment strategy, program evaluation, audits, and all other required EH&S external recognition programs. Along with management, act as the EH&S liaison with employees at the site. The EH&S Manager must directly support employee engagement around EH&S and other key initiatives of the leadership team. Understand and proactively follow through on the Management Systems aspects and risks that have been identified as relevant to the site.

This is a leadership position with high visibility and reporting responsibilities. Candidates should be able to work independently on projects, participate on multiple team efforts, be energetic and provide team leadership when required.
Responsibilities include:

  • Partnering with the leadership team and line supervision to ensure EH&S regulatory compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations and adherence to P&W procedures and UTC EH&S Standard Practices.
  • Identification of health & safety hazards and controls to mitigate risks.
  • Coordinating corporate-wide programs, risk mitigation and injury prevention initiatives, based on the needs of the site
  • Participating in pollution prevention / waste reduction initiatives to achieve our sustainability goals
  • Working on cross-functional projects that interface with other groups external to and within the core EH&S team.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors of Science in Engineering, EH&S or or related technical field
  • 7+ years' experience as EH&S professional with direct involvement with management responsibilities or 5+ years' with advanced degree
Preferred qualifications:
  • Masters of Science/Engineering in EH&S or related technical field
  • Experience in petroleum, chemical, semiconductor or aerospace industries
  • Proven strong communication, strategic leadership, technical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven skills working as/with a team to meet highly aggressive goals.
  • EH&S Regulatory and management systems knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of quality and process improvement tools such as Six Sigma and LEAN
  • Experience creating and executing Process Safety Management (PSM) compliance programs
  • Additional certifications, such as CSP, CIH. P.E. or CHMM, preferred.
